Dutch energy retail is entering a new phase of complexity. Volatility remains an operating reality, while rooftop solar, electrification and flexible energy consumption are changing how energy is generated, consumed and priced. At the same time, the end of net metering (salderingsregeling) on 1 January 2027 is reshaping how retailers price, bill and compensate solar feed-in, and with it where margin risk sits. Retailers are responding with more sophisticated products and propositions, from dynamic tariffs to new feed-in terms, against a backdrop of continued regulatory change and intense competition.
